PTO Mission Statement

The PTO exists to:

  1. promote the welfare of children in home, school and community
  2. bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the training of the child
  3. develop between education and the general public such united efforts as will secure for every child the highest advantages in physical, mental and social education.
  4. raise funds beyond the regular Fir Grove Elementary School budget

Programs and activities we support and fund:

  • Meet Your Teacher Ice Cream Social
  • Boo Hoo/Woo Hoo – this is an event for new parents on the first day at school.
  • Passport Club – a parent-run geography program for 2nd to 5th grade.
  • Science Expo – this year we had 265 projects! We also sell discounted boards to the students.
  • Field Trips – we have budgeted over $10,000 so that no parent has to pay for any field trips.  This also includes the Mad Science assembly!
  • Art Literacy – a parent-run art program that focuses on several different artists throughout the school year. The children make art in a style associated with the artist they are studying.
  • Donuts for Dudes & Donuts for Divas – these events are always a sweet time!
  • School Supplies Program – a program we have supported for the last 3 years to ensure that every student and teacher has quality supplies for the entire school year.
  • Student planners for 4th and 5th grade.
  • A donation of $250 for the district Clothes Closet. Our donation helps purchase socks and underwear.
  • Class Parties – three parties for every class (Harvest Party, Valentine’s and Year End) and parties for the classes that bring in the most Box Tops.
  • Weekly popcorn – we provide the start up funds for the popcorn program.
  • Dilly Bars for Open House.
  • Staff appreciation and meals for the staff during conferences.
  • Battle of the Books –a reading competition for 4th and 5th grade. We purchase the OBOB books for the library so each child has the opportunity to take part.
  • Summer Reading Party – this is a reward party for students who read 1500 minutes over the summer.
  • Leveled Book Room – a resource for teachers to use for book groups.
  • Teacher Supplies – $100 for each teacher to spend to supplement their grade level budget. The teachers have bought everything from books and educational games to organizational supplies for their classrooms.
  • RAZ Kids – an e-book website which K through 3rd grade are using in their curriculum.
  • Assemblies – four assemblies are booked, varying from year to year.
  • Insects for the 2nd grade insect unit.
  • Chess Club – supplies and t-shirts for participants.
  • United Streaming – a school-wide subscription to Discovery Education’s online resource.
